Green Evolution

  • The Skywalk – a covered, elevated pedestrian walkway that links 4 key buildings inside the campus and enables ease of movement between the buildings.

  • The design of the Skywalk was Inspired by an alphabet of the ancient South Indian script “Vatta-ezhuthu”, a precursor to modern day Tamizh.

  • The Skywalk has lush vegetation flanking the walkway which provides a pleasant experience to pedestrians.

  • The Skywalk connects the heritage Ripon Building with Amma Maaligai with access to the CCC and Revenue buildings enroute.

  • The access to the Skywalk at Amma Maaligai is through a newly created dining and recreation space covered by a bi-facial solar PV roof.

  • The Skywalk soars high above the ground level without causing any hindrance to the free flow of people and traffic below.

What makes this green?

The Skywalk is an elevated covered pedestrian walkway that connects 4 key buildings inside the Greater Chennai Corporation’s campus. The Skywalk is covered with a translucent fabric roof that keeps the walkway well lit without the use of artificial lights during the day. At night, energy efficient LEDs light up the walkway. The Skywalk features lush native vegetation flanking the walkway, providing a pleasant experience that encourages GCC employees to walk.
